
Stop the Ghost Stops: Dealing with Electrical Noise in Your UV Setup
If you’ve got a few large printing presses running in one room, you know it’s a loud place. I don’t just mean the noise you can hear—I mean the electrical noise. UV curing lamps use high-frequency power supplies that can be a bit “leaky” if they aren’t built right. They put out electromagnetic interference (EMI) that acts like static on a radio. This static messes with your PLC signals and sensors. One minute everything is fine, and the next, your line hits a “ghost stop” for no apparent reason, or your cure rates start swinging wildly. It’s frustrating.

Also, you can’t just plug these into an old, ungrounded circuit and expect miracles. For the anti-interference stuff to actually work, your plant’s grounding needs to be solid. If your ground is floating, no amount of internal shielding can stop that noise from getting out. Get your grounding up to spec, and these lamps will do the rest.
